Adriaan Hoek studied organ and church music at the Rotterdam Conservatory where he graduated summa laude in 2016 as a Master of Music. His teachers were Ben van Oosten, Bas de Vroome, Aart Bergwerff and Hayo Boerema. He continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg and at the Hogeschool in Ghent. Here he took lessons from Wolfgang Zerer, Pieter van Dijk and Ignace Michiels.
Adriaan won eight first prizes at international organ competitions in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy and America. Because of his performances at the International Schnitger Organ Competition in Alkmaar (2015) and the "Grand Prix d'ECHO" in Treviso (Italy 2018), he was able to call himself "The Young ECHO Organist of the Year" in both 2016 and 2018.
In recent years, Adriaan has performed in various prestigious series at home and abroad. As a church musician he has been affiliated with the Ikazia Hospital in Rotterdam since 2015 and with the Marekerk in Leiden since 2022.
From the summer of 2022 he has been appointed city organist of Rotterdam. In that position he is the regular player of the Standaard concert organ in the Citizens' Hall of the City Hall (where he programs the concert series 'Music in the Citizens' Hall') and the four-manual Flentrop organ in Concertgebouw De Doelen.
Adriaan likes to play the entire breadth of the organ repertoire, from medieval to 21st century music and everything in between. In addition, he likes to combine the organ with other musicians.
