Bert Koelewijn was born in 1953 in Spakenburg in the province of Utrecht in Holland. Here, he received his first lessons with various local organists. He was already playing the organ at church services and accompanying choirs at a very young age.
During his architectural studies at the Gooise Technical School, he received lessons from Rutger van Mazijk in Laren.
Thereafter, he decided to definitely study musik. He continued his
lessons with Theo Teunissen, who prepared him for his professional study. This led to him gaining a certificate in Musical education for the electro- nic organ in 1979 under the direction of Emiel Simonis and a certificate for the church organ in 1980 under the direction of Kees van Houten, both with merit at the "Utrechts Conservatorium".
In 1989, Bert Koelwijn obtained a Musical instructor Piano diploma at the "Hilversums Conservatorium" under the direction of Matthijs Verschoor. He studied to become a conductor and made various records with his choirs.
