Bert experimented with music from an early age. He was taught organ playing by Nico Poorter. Immediately after graduating from secondary school, Bert took the step to study carillon and piano at the University of the Arts in Utrecht and later at the Dordse Beiaardschool. Despite the fun study, leading choirs appealed to him more and he therefore went on to study choral conducting at the Bourdon School of Music.
As a conductor he has had the opportunity to lead numerous choirs. The Shaare Zedek Choir, Youth Selection Choir and Youth Choir Jigdaljahu are currently his regular choirs. In addition to these choirs, Bert is regularly hired on a project basis. An example of this is conducting the annual men's singing evening in Katwijk, a singing evening with about 2000 men. Since 2006 Bert has been an evangelist at the Christian Congregation 'De Wegwijzer' in Almere and has taken a step back in music.
His deep desire to contribute to the glorification of God and to bring the gospel to Western man is the reason why he wrote the compositions 'The Expectation' and 'Alpha & Omega'.
