Van Rijswijk (8 October 1939) spent his youth in Wijk en Aalburg, a village on the Meuse. After attending secondary school, he started training as a teacher at the Driestar training school in Gouda in 1956. Successively he was a teacher and director at primary schools in Scherpenisse, Veenendaal and Barneveld. In addition, he started writing stories in 1965.Van Rijswijk: "I came to write because I had worked out some stories and sent them to a publisher. It is mainly the children who have stimulated me. If I promised them to tell them fifteen minutes at the end of Friday afternoon, I wouldn't have a child for them for the rest of the week. Besides, I loved interacting with them. Recently I dreamed that I would be teaching again. I woke up so happy!"
Van Rijswijk mainly writes books about history and church history. Van Rijswijk: "Through my books I want to pass on what I have been given from my childhood, from the church. That is, that there is only one people on earth who are happy, and that is the people of God. That is what the Lord tells us in His Word, and that is what we have to tell the children. In addition, I received good Bible education from Elder Aaike Versteeg from Aalburg, with whom we had a relationship as children.
