'Cantate Deo'
'Singing', said Augustine, 'is praying twice'. A more apt description of the musical use of the voice is unthinkable. Singing as a prayer, singing as thanksgiving, singing for God as Creator of heaven and earth, singing in good times and bad, on high days and in times of trouble, singing in the midst of everyday life.
'Cantate Deo', the Christian Singing Association from Amersfoort, which has existed for 25 years in 1990, wants to stand in that tradition.
Singing in the midst of everyday life. That is not without obligation, not neutral. 'Cantate Deo' (= Sing for God!) demands quality, dedication, enthusiasm and, if necessary, also asks for a sacrifice. Seen in that light, 'Cantate Deo' wants to be more than a social club. There is constant work on voice training, repertoire renewal, discipline and motivation. After all, singing is praying twice, so it is not without obligation. And if, as 'Cantate Deo' sees it, you want to sing for God in His own house, then the best is not good enough.
The history of the choir goes back to October 1965. It started with a small group of enthusiastic singers. Mr. E.J. Kas was soon appointed conductor. Since 1980, the choir has been led by Peter Eilander, under whose leadership 'Cantate Deo' grew into a singing association of 150 members.
Over the years, a number of tours were made: America, Canada and Hungary were visited.
In our country, 'Cantate Deo' enjoys great fame. In addition to the traditional autumn concerts in the Sint Joriskerk in Amersfoort, 'Cantate Deo' also gave concerts elsewhere and cooperated in activities in various churches. A wide range of soloists participated in these performances, many of whom can be heard on this new CD/MC.
'Cantate Deo' released two LPs. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary, this new CD/MC was recorded in the Sint Joriskerk in Amersfoort.
'Cantate Deo' presents various psalms and spiritual songs in a very special way.
