Edward Vanmarsenille (Sint-Truiden, °1984) studied organ (Prof. Anne Froidebise) and classical writing/composition (Prof. Joseph Gilet) at the Royal Conservatory of Liège. Afterwards he continued his musical education at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp for harpsichord (Prof. Ewald Demeyere) and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne (Prof. Michael Borgstede). He took additional courses with Marie-Anne Dachy for harpsichord and with Joris Verdin for harmonium and organ.
Edward is associated as titular organist of the prestigious organs of the Collegiate Church of Our Lady in Sint-Truiden and has made several CD recordings. In addition to a very busy activity as a soloist on organ, harpsichord or harmonium and as a music theorist/composer, he is a much sought-after basso continuo player and collaborates with top ensembles such as the Choeur de Chambre de Namur, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège and the ensemble Concerto Imperiale. For several years now, thanks to commissions from a number of young ensembles, Edward has also been active as a composer. This resulted in works for organ (Toccata), piano (Prélude et Fugue), cello and harpsichord (Sonate pour violoncelle et clavecin), for Renaissance ensemble (Sonate à quatre) and chamber orchestra (Concerto grosso). As a composer he uses a very personal style that combines clear influences from the past with the latest innovations of contemporary music.
Edward teaches at the Conservatory of Verviers (Harpsichord) and the Royal Conservatory of Liège. He is associated with the latter institution as a senior lecturer in writing and as a teacher of basso continuo and organ improvisation.
