Gerlinda van den Berg (1983) started her musical career for piano at the age of 12. She was taught by Herman Riphagen from Heerde (NL), who instructed her to the level suitable for starting a conservatorium education. She continued her studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Marjes Benoist and the Fontys Conservatory Tilburg with Joop Albracht, where she graduated for her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 2005. She also graduated for the specialisation chamber music.
Apart from playing the piano she took up playing the panflute as well. Aged 13 she had lessons with Gerard Rijken van Olst and continued her education with Noortje van Middelkoop. Because the panflute is a folk instrument from Romania, she explored this musical genre as well. She was taught by the Romanian virtuose Nicolae Pîrvu. At the moment Gerlinda is mainly focusing on classical playing techniques for panflute and was regularly coached by Matthijs Koene, panflute teacher at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
By playing two different instruments Gerlinda has become a versatile musician. She plays in several duos, cooperates with various musicians and gives concerts in the Netherlands and abroad. She has also published several CDs. Gerlinda participated in masterclasses such as the ‘Internationale Sommercampus’ in Rostock and the ‘International Masterclass for Lieder Duos’ at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Rudolf Jansen and Andreas Schmidt.
Gerlinda also graduated for her Bachelor’s Degree Music Teaching at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague in 2010.
