The Reformed Men's Choir is a regional men's choir that is well known in circles of lovers of male choral singing. The members of the choir come from IJsselmuiden, Grafhorst and wider surrounding areas. Every Tuesday evening, more than a hundred enthusiastic members from different denominations meet in the Zaaier to study the songs together. The repertoire consists of spiritual and patriotic song. There is an atmosphere of friendship and solidarity among the members. The choir sound is characterized by a light timbre and warm bass sound. The choir regularly performs in the country.
Since its inception, the choir has been led by a number of skilled conductors. The first conductor was Henk Heldoorn from IJsselmuiden. This was succeeded after 7 years by Cor Schultink from Hattem. Jurriën Plender then conducted the choir for almost 18 years. Since October 1, 1998, the choir has been under the capable leadership of Freddy Veldkamp from Hardenberg. In addition to the Reformed Men's Choir, Freddy is the conductor of the Interchurch Men's Choir from Drachten, the Christian Men's Choir "Looft Den Heere" from Vaassen and the Holland Christian Male Choir. He is also organist at the Kandelaarkerk in Heemse. Furthermore, Freddy Veldkamp was a music teacher at the Greijdanus College in Hardenberg and Meppel for 36 years.
