Organist Henk Ruitenbeek was born on 10 November 1967 in Alblasserdam. He received organ lessons from the age of six, initially from Bas Voogd in Sliedrecht, later for several years from Mr Reedeker in Alblasserdam. In 1983 he continued his organ studies with the well-known organ pedagogue Leo Terlouw in Bleskensgraaf. Since 1984 he has been associated with the Old Reformed Church in the Netherlands in Kinderdijk as an organist. Since 1990 he has been allowed to use a particularly beautiful and powerful Blank organ for this purpose. He is regularly asked to accompany (joint) singing evenings in the country. His controlled improvisation style is characterised by the merging of sound musical knowledge with a distinctly romantic idiom. In addition to his daily work as an administrative secretary at the municipality of Rotterdam, he teaches a number of students. He is also no stranger in the field of organ building. The preludes performed on this CD are live improvisations, in which a preconceived theme is used on several occasions.
