Henri Arnoldus was born on February 22, 1919 in Middelburg.

After training as a teacher at the teacher training college, he was a teacher at a Roman Catholic primary school in his native city from 1943 to 1970.

Arnoldus wrote informative books, reading books and school books. Many of his children's books have been translated into German. He mainly wrote stories in series, in which the same characters always appear. Animals play an important role in his books for very young readers.

The main ingredients in Arnoldus' stories are simplicity, tension and humor. Much of his work was illustrated by Carol W. Voges (1925-2001). Many reprints of his books have been published.
