Hugo van der Meij was born on March 30, 1992 in Katwijk. At a very young age he could be found behind the piano, and that resulted in piano lessons at the age of 8, from Peter Bontje. After having taken piano lessons for a number of years, this was on the back burner during the high school period. When he was 16 years old, he took organ lessons with Sjaak van Duijn, also in Katwijk. He was 20 years old when he started the Choral Conducting course at the UCK in Utrecht. Hugo is currently the conductor of 3 men's choirs, a mixed choir and a children's choir. He also plays throughout the country as a choir accompanist on both organ and piano and gives more and more solo organ concerts. Concert tours have taken Hugo to Belgium, Germany, France, England and Luxembourg. He also collaborated on more than 30 CD recordings. Hugo is a church organist in the Christian Reformed Church in Katwijk, and regularly plays services in other churches.
