As a pianist and organist, Jaap is much in demand accompanist for congregational singing and choirs. Accompanying singers requires a serving and supporting way of playing is Jaap's vision:
"Every now and then I hear pianists or organists accompany a choir, congregation or soloist and I get the impression that the musician may be more concerned with his own playing than with the whole in which he or she has a supporting role. Often with the best intentions, probably. Still, I prefer to make a different choice. I would like to be at the service of the singers I accompany as an accompanist. That is my vision. And I certainly try to add an extra musical layer to that, but I never take over."
As a pianist/organist, Jaap performs weekly at home and abroad. He is active in both classical music and more modern gospel. He also made several organ CDs and can regularly be heard on Nederland Zingt of the EO.
