Jan Wisse received his first organ lessons from Arie Joosse. He then studied organ and piano with Leen de Broekert at the Zeeuwse Muziekschool in Middelburg. From 1985 to 1992 he studied organ at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Johann Th. Lemckert, where he obtained the diplomas Teaching and Performing Musician. At the Conservatoire Internationale de Musique in Paris he studied from 1995 with Marie-Louise Langlais. In 1998 he concluded this study by obtaining a Premier Prix, the highest rating that can be achieved for this exam. This study was made possible by a scholarship from the Prins Bernhardfonds in Amsterdam. At the Haarlem Summer Academy he followed masterclasses with Ewald Kooiman and Jean Boyer. In 1994 Jan Wisse won the N.C.R.V Van der Horst/De Klerk competition. In 1998 he won second prize at the international organ competition Rijnstreek in Nijmegen. In 2000 he won the audience award at the same competition.
At the Royal Carillon School "Jef Denijn" in Mechelen Jan Wisse completed his carillon studies with distinction.
Jan Wisse regularly gives organ concerts and regularly participates in radio and CD recordings.
In Walcheren he has an extensive teaching practice for organ and piano. He is also the conductor of five choirs.
As an organist Jan Wisse is affiliated with the Reformed Church in Aagtekerke.
From 1996 to 2006 he was chairman of the Association of Organists of the Reformed Churches (VOGG).
