The youth choir “Asaf” was founded on March 14, 1973. Since December 2003, the choir has been led by Peter Wildeman, with Willem den Boer serving as the regular organist since 2019. The choir consists of approximately 130 enthusiastic members aged 6 to 14.
The choir has participated in several CD recordings, including the 1991 CD “Uit de mond der kinderen” with the children's choir from Ridderkerk, and a live recording in 1992 titled “Wees mij genadig, Heer” with the men's choir Ethan from Yerseke. In 1994, they recorded “De Heer is mijn Herder” with various children's choirs, and in 1995, they produced the CD “Op U te vertrouwen” with the youth choir Cantilena, followed by another edition of “Wees mij genadig, Heer.” In 2006, they recorded the CD “Zingt nu de Heer.” In 2014, they collaborated with three other choirs from Werkendam to record the CD “Vrede laat ik U,” and lastly, a Christmas CD titled “Een Licht zo groot, zo schoon!”
The choir sings psalms and spiritual songs, sometimes in two-part harmony, with many arrangements written by the conductor himself. In March 2023, the choir celebrated its 50th anniversary with extensive attention. Each year, the choir participates in various singing evenings, with the annual Christmas singing evening in their own church being a cherished tradition.
