Johan Baaij was born on 13 December 1947 in Tholen. At a very young age, his high boy soprano was noticed. From the age of 6, he had to sing solo in front of the class regularly. At the age of 12, he became a member of the Christian mixed choir "Crescendo" in Tholen. There, he found a place among the tenors. Since its foundation, he has been the permanent soloist of the Christian Tholen male choir "Rehoboth".
With this choir and the soprano Jantine van Voorden, he regularly collaborates on evenings organised by the Stichting Woord en Daad.
For six years, he took singing lessons with the soprano Elsa Hernady van Bueren from Bergen op Zoom. In Antwerp, he obtained the A and B Solo Singing diplomas (with distinction). After a few years of rest, he has resumed his singing lessons, now with opera and concert singer Renaat Dekker from Essen (Belgium).
