From the age of 10 until he was 13, Joost received organ lessons. Afterwards, he continued to develop his skills independently.
In November 1981, he was appointed as the organist of the Reformed Community in the Netherlands in Bruinisse.
The arrangements of the Psalms were created as introductions to the worship service or as preludes to congregational singing, and are based on the Psalms of Datheen, which are still sung in Bruinisse.
