Leanne's life began in Puttershoek. In high school, she attended havo, first in Dordrecht and later in Rotterdam. After high school, Leanne started studying journalism. "I thought it would be wonderful to be able to write a lot and work a lot with language." After she graduated, she wrote for various magazines, such as Gezinsgids. "In journalism, I was mainly focused on facts and news. Very fun, but it started itching to just make up a story again." Leanne signed up for a children's book writing workshop at publisher Den Hertog. "Incredibly educational and fun. I really needed this to finally make my dream come true."
After the workshop, Leanne decided to persevere and eventually submitted a manuscript to the publisher. "I did most of my writing on Aruba, where I lived for two years with my husband. I had a lot of free time there, and I would often get behind the laptop."
