Marcel van de Ketterij was born in 1965. He began learning the basics of organ playing from his father at the age of six.
In 1981, he started lessons with Peter Eilander, and in 1985, he attended the Conservatory in Zwolle. There, he studied with Nico Waasdorp and Harm Jansen. His lessons took place on notable instruments such as the Schnitger organ in the Grote or St. Michael's Church and the Adema organ in the Dominican Church, both in Zwolle.
In 1991, Marcel earned his diploma as a Performing Organist. He also obtained a Church Organ Playing diploma in the same year. Marcel has been active as a choir conductor for several groups, including the Christian Men’s Choir Salvatori in Nunspeet (1995-2011), the mixed choir Viva Vox in Elspeet, and the Noordermannenkoor in Rijssen. He also works part-time as a music teacher at the Jac. Fruytier Scholengemeenschap in Uddel.
In addition to teaching and conducting, Marcel is the organist at the Eben-Haëzer Church in Apeldoorn, where he plays the Steendam organ, built in 1997. He regularly participates in concerts and CD recordings, including contributing to a Christmas CD by baritone soloist Henk Dijkhuizen.
In 2002, Marcel released his own CD of Dutch Chorale Arrangements, recorded on the monumental organ of the Grote Kerk in Gorinchem. The selections for this CD focus on works that are rarely or never recorded. The album features pieces by Feike Asma, Herman Vliet, Piet Post, Jan Zwart, Harm Hoeve, Willem Hendrik Zwart, Hans Boelee, Dick Sanderman, Jan Bonefaas, Klaas Bolt, Johan Bredewout, and Marcel van de Ketterij himself. Notably, it includes two little-known arrangements by Feike Asma.
