After studying Cultural Anthropology, the alto/mezzo-soprano Marianne Selleger began her vocal studies at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam under Charles van Tassel. She continued her studies at the Mozarteum, Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Salzburg, studying under Rudolf Knoll and Helena Lazarska. She attended masterclasses with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sena Jurinac, and Kurt Widmer. She quickly developed a fondness for contemporary music, performing with the Ensemble für Moderne Musik under the direction of Herbert Grassl and later with groups such as Het Koor Nieuwe Muziek and the chamber opera "De Passie Van Anna" and "Orpheus" by Louis Andriessen.
At the local Landestheater, she sang her first operatic roles and performed in self-made music theater productions such as "Engel verführt man gar nicht oder schnell." During the Salzburg Festival, she portrayed the role of Vorsängerin in H. von Hoffmansthal's "Jedermann" for several years. Upon returning to the Netherlands, she studied with Aafje Heynis, Ronald Klekamp, and James McCray.
Marianne Selleger emerged as a versatile singer, performing classical repertoire (lieder, opera, and oratorio), with a strong passion for folk music, and exploring the full range of vocal possibilities. Dirk Hooglandt composed chamber opera "Lacrimae" and various songs specifically for her voice.
Every year, she performs the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi with the Pergolesi Ensemble around Easter. She is the pianist of the salon piano trio Amsterdamse Snaren and, together with saxophonist Dirk Hooglandt, has created a duet program called "Stem en Sax," for which they arrange existing pieces.
From 2001 to 2018, she sang with De Benonies, an ensemble specializing in Italian film music, with whom she recorded two CDs. She is the regular vocal coach for the folk operas performed with great success in Amsterdam Noord since 2012. She conducts opera and vocal workshops and gives individual lessons to those interested.
Since 2005, Marianne has directed two choirs, the Lastagekoor and the Koor Zonder Grenzen.
