Martien van der Zwan (1973) studied organ at the Rotterdam Conservatory under Arie J. Keijzer and Bas de Vroome, with piano and voice as his secondary subjects. He took organ improvisation lessons from the Gorinchem musician Jan Bonefaas. In addition, he graduated in music education from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
He is currently the conductor of the youth choir Heman and the chamber choir Kol-Sjariem, as well as the instrumental ensemble Filomusica. Together with Leander van der Steen, he leads the instrumental ensemble Parlando.
He works part-time as a music teacher at the Gomarus school community in Gorinchem. As an organist, he is affiliated with the Grote Kerk in IJsselstein and the Christian Reformed Church in Rijnsaterwoude. Every year, he participates as conductor and accompanist in numerous concerts and CD recordings.
In addition, he composes works for piano, ensemble, mixed choir, and organ. For the organ, he has composed, among other pieces, the series Korte Koraalvoorspelen (Short Chorale Preludes), providing introductions to all 150 Psalms. In May 2014, his most extensive work to date was published: the Koraalboek (Chorale Book) for the 150 Psalms.
