Matthijs Breukhoven (1992) took his first piano lessons at the SKVR music school in Rotterdam. He then took lessons on piano and organ for 5 years from organist Frank J. van Wingerden. From 2009 to 2014 Matthijs received his organ lessons from Arjen Leistra (literature), and in 2012 from Gerben Mourik (improvisation).
In 2013, during his six-month stay in Australia, he also studied with Dominic Perissinotto, organist of St. Patrick's Basilica in Fremantle.
Matthijs studied bachelor's degree in organ at the Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts) with Ben van Oosten and Bas de Vroome and church music with Hanna Rijken and Arie Hoek. He also received improvisation lessons from Hayo Boerema and choral conducting from Wiecher Mandemaker.
After that, Matthijs studied master organ at the Utrecht School of the Arts with Reitze Smits. In addition to organ, Matthijs studied harpsichord with Siebe Henstra and carillon with Christiaan Winter. In 2021 he graduated as Master of Music.
In addition, Matthijs is active as a concert organist at home and abroad in Europe and Australia.
Matthijs attended masterclasses with Wolfgang Zerer, Arie, among others. J. Keijzer, Aude Heurtematte, Henry Fairs, Leo van Doeselaar, Sietze de Vries and Olivier Latry.
Matthijs is organist of the Oude Kerk in Rotterdam-Charlois and the Alexanderkerk in Rotterdam.
In addition, Matthijs is the conductor of the Christian Men's Choir Scheveningen, the Christian Mixed Choir Joy from Rotterdam and the Christian Mixed Choir Shining from Bergschenhoek.
In addition to his musical activities, Matthijs studied Mechanical Engineering.
