Paul Peter Spiering was born in Hilversum in 1954. He received his first violin lessons at the age of 7. Seven years later he began his violin studies at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Jo Juda. In 1975 he obtained his Soloist diploma with distinction. He received a scholarship and continued his studies with Ivan Galamian in New York. After a year he returned and completed his studies with Herman Krebbers and obtained the 'Prize of Excellence' in 1978. As a soloist he performed with the Brabant Orchestra and the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra. Since 1978 he has been affiliated with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. He is also artistic director of the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra. He is well-known as a violinist and has collaborated on numerous recordings for broadcasters, LPs and CDs.
