Rien Donkersloot was born in 1985 in Rotterdam. He received his first organ lessons from Arie van den Berg from Barendrecht, after which he studied with Arjen Leistra.
He studied organ at the Rotterdam Conservatory. In June of 2006 he graduated cum laude for the first phase, principal subject teacher was Bas de Vroome. He also obtained a diploma in church music.

He studied for the diploma 2nd phase with Ben van Oosten and Bas de Vroome. In June 2008 he graduated cum laude. He took organ courses with Michel Chapuis, Andres Cea Galan, Harald Vogel, Olivier Latry, Zsigmond Szathmary and Thomas Trotter.

Following his organ studies, he studied the carillon at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort with Frans Haagen, Henk Verhoef and Gijsbert Kok. In 2011 he obtained his Master of Music degree cum laude. As part of his carillon studies, he conducted research into early 20th-century Dutch carillon music. Rien has won various prizes at organ and carillon competitions in the Netherlands and abroad.

Since 2012 he is organist of the St.-Joriskerk in Amersfoort. He combines this function with the organistship of the Laurentiuskerk in Mijnsheerenland, where he plays the monumental Bätz organ.

Rien is city carillonneur of Haarlem, Brielle, Goes and municipal carillonneur of Ridderkerk. He is also frequently active as accompanist of choirs and soloists and is active as a teacher. He is an avid improviser on both the organ and the carillon.
