Sytse Buwalda began his singing studies at the age of fifteen with Paul Hameleers and continued his studies at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Cora Canne-Meyer. Countertenor Sytse Buwalda has been a much sought-after soloist worldwide for over 35 years. In addition to concert repertoire and roles in old and new operas, singing songs is one of his greatest passions. Together with lutenist/guitarist David van Ooijen, he has garnered international praise for his special narrative recitals. Sytse wrote a collection of verses, received the Premio de Honor Cuba Disco for his entire oeuvre and was appointed Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion. In the corona year 2020, he founded the successful Nederlands Bach Consort together with Heleen Koele, of which he is the artistic and musical director.
