Theo Teunissen received his first music lessons at the age of 5. He pursued his organ studies at the Utrecht Conservatory under the guidance of Stoffel van Viegen and Cor Kee.

In 1954, Teunissen was appointed organist of the Torenpleinkerk in Vleuten. This was followed by his appointment as organist at the Wilhelminakerk in Utrecht in 1959, and later at the Julianakerk (1974) and the Jacobikerk (1978) in the same city. During the same period, he worked as an organ teacher at the Utrecht Conservatory and the municipal music school. He taught students such as Jan Teeuw and Gerrit 't Hart.

As an organist, he performed concerts in many Western and Eastern European countries. He was also invited to serve as an organist at the University of Victoria.

Teunissen released a large number of LPs and CDs and collaborated on radio programs of the NCRV and the EO. Additionally, he is active as a composer and serves as an editor under the auspices of the Netherlands Music Institute.
