The Urk Mixed Choir Immanuël is a choir from Urk, founded in 1980 as 'Youth Choir Asaf' by a group of young singers who did not yet want to join a traditional mixed choir. At the time under the leadership of Mart Bolle. Four years later, in 1984, the name was changed to 'Youth Choir Immanuel' and Jan Quintus Zwart took on the role of conductor. Under his leadership, the choir grew and four CDs were released. In 1997 Zwart handed over the baton to Harm Hoeve, who has been the musical director ever since. Since then, the choir has released four more CDs and recorded collaborative albums with, among others, De Lofstem Rouveen, the Urker Zangers and Youth Choir Chaverim. Concert tours were also organized to Romania, the United States, Canada, Poland, Malta and recently to Prague.
In 2022, the choir celebrated its 40th anniversary with the performance of the oratorio 'God Met Ons', specially written by Johan Bredewout for this occasion. At the same time, the name was changed to 'Urker Mixed Choir Immanuel' to emphasize the Urk roots. The choir has a wide repertoire, ranging from negro spirituals to psalms with the aim of making God great in singing, conducting and making music.
