Willem van Suijdam was born in 1956 in Epe. In 1979 he graduated from the Municipal Conservatory in Zwolle. His teacher was Jaap Dragt. He studied Bach interpretations with Charles de Wolff, after which he went to study with Jean Guillou in Paris in 1982. Jean Guillou is the permanent organist at the Saint Eustache in the French capital and enjoys world reputations in the field of improvisation. He was named organist of the year 1982 by the American Guild of Organists. Willem van Suijdam studied with him, focusing on specific aspects of the execution of the great masterpieces.
A few years ago, Willem went to live in Canada, where he gives many concerts as an organist.
