60 years of 'A new song'
Soon after the establishment of the Free Evangelical Church in Oldebroek at the end of 1930, a choir was also formed. Although it was a choir without a name and without a board, that was initially not a problem for the members. Someone was appointed to collect contributions.
In October 1933, however, it was deemed necessary to give the choir a name and to elect a board. The name, "A new song", was inspired by the first two verses of Psalm 96, which states:
SING TO THE LORD A NEW SONG; SING TO THE LORD, ALL THE EARTH!
SING TO THE LORD, PRAISE HIS NAME; MESSAGES HIS SALVATION FROM DAY TO DAY
Not only the name but also the goal of the choir can be found in these verses, namely to praise and glorify the Lord God through the song and to make his salvation - SALVATION! - known to others from day to day.
At the official start there were 25 members. The choir currently has 92 members. Since the beginning of 1990, Mr. Harry Hollander has been the conductor. Someone from the local congregation. In recent years he has also been the musical director of the gospel choir Adventus of the congregation. Wilhelmien Oosterloo-van Loo has been the regular pianist of the choir for over twelve years.
The choir cooperates in church services of the congregation. The high days are Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and the conference and maranatha services. Furthermore, they sing in hospitals, nursing homes, care homes, open-air meetings, camping services and in various churches in the area.
Highlights in the past were the making of two gramophone records and the participation in various radio and T.V. church services.
A new highlight is the celebration of the 60th anniversary with the release of this C.D.. Soli Deo gloria (to God alone the glory)!
